Come to tryouts with an open mind and a good attitude!
Do I have to have experience to try out for the Mustang Cheer Team?
We do not require any experience to be a part of program. Our team does require a tryout and we place individuals on the team that best fits their skill set. We do take grades, attitude, and school attendance into account when determining if someone is a good fit for our program.
I will be a freshman next year, can I tryout?
Yes, incoming freshman are welcome to tryout!
How many cheerleaders do you take?
The size of the team varies from year to year.
Does the team do sideline and/or competitive cheer?
The team currently does sideline cheer. During Fall, we cheer for the Varsity Football team (both Home and Away games) and all postseason games. During Winter, we cheer for most but not all Varsity Boys and Girls Basketball games and all postseason games. Participation in competitive cheer is determined by the head coach.
Do you allow athletes to participate in other activities or on other teams?
We allow, and encourage, athletes to be active members in their school and community. Because of the Cheer commitments in the Fall and Winter, Cheerleaders cannot participate in other sports during those seasons.
Is there practice during the summer? What about vacations?
We understand families will be out at times during the summer, but when in town practices are mandatory. Daily practices begin in August and the entire team is required to be there, as well as Skills Camp, which is in July (exact dates coming soon).
How important is being at every practice?
EVERY practice is important. If one member is missing, it affects a whole stunt group. Please do your best to plan accordingly.
How Long is the season? May - February sideline cheerleaders are expected to cheer through the entirety of basketball playoffs for both girls and boys.
Do I have to go to Skills Camp? Yes, Skills Camp is mandatory. People that do not participate in Skills Camp tend to fall behind on material and miss out on a great opportunity to bond with your team.
Can I have a job? Absolutely! Coaches will do their best to be considerate of athletes with jobs by maintaining a fixed practice and events schedule. You are expected to work your work schedule around cheer responsibilities. Missing games and practice for a job is considered unexcused.
